The Story
Hi, I’m Sophia, founder of KMFSTL.
This story begins not in a boardroom, but on a journey across China.
After nine years working in a state-owned import & export corporation—where I learned the ins and outs of global trade—I decided to follow my heart. I left my job, traveled through most of the country, and eventually found my way to Yunnan. Here, I met my partner, fell in love with this land, and started a family. The mountains, the food—it just felt right to stay.
During my pregnancy and while breastfeeding, I chose to eat pure vegan—oil-free, salt-free, just plants. I wanted to give my daughter the cleanest possible start.
And I watched her thrive. Healthy. Bright. Full of energy.
I believe it has to do with what I ate. I spent most of my pregnancy in Chuxiong—a region known for its walnuts and wild mushrooms. When I needed more walnuts, I’d walk to a local factory and buy them directly. No middlemen, no contracts—just a mother showing up at the door. That factory is a provincial-level key enterprise. The owner has taken his walnuts to trade fairs in the Middle East, invited by government officials. He taught me about the grades—first, second, third, fourth, and the pieces that bakers love. And of course, the wild mushrooms from these mountains—they were in my soups throughout my pregnancy.
I’ve also eaten walnuts from Dali, and from other parts of Yunnan. I’ve walked through enough orchards, talked to enough farmers, to know that this high-altitude land grows food differently—naturally protected by the mountains themselves.
And here’s why I started this company: I’m still breastfeeding. I need work that fits around my daughter—nap times, feedings, late nights. But also, the food here is too good not to share. I want to make a living doing something I believe in, and help other families eat the way mine does.
I don’t sell what I don’t believe in. I sell what I feed my child.
Nine years of export experience means I can handle the shipping, the documentation, the compliance. But more importantly, I believe in what I’m exporting.
If you believe in food as it should be—pure, simple, from people who care—let’s talk.
From my table to yours. From Yunnan to the world.
Why Work With Me?
1. I eat what I sell
The walnuts on this page? I ate them daily while breastfeeding. The mushrooms? They were in my soups throughout my pregnancy. I don’t source from farms I haven’t visited or products I haven’t tasted. If it’s not good enough for my family, it’s not good enough for you.
2. I’ve been where it comes from
I lived in Chuxiong. I’ve walked the walnut orchards in Dali. I’ve sat with foragers in the mountains. The people I work with may not have international certificates yet, but they have obtained a domestic organic certification. More importantly, I’ve seen their fields with my own eyes. I’ve tasted what they grow. Some of them still remember me showing up at their door.
3. Direct from people I know
The factory owner I buy from? We still chat on WeChat. He’s a provincial-level key enterprise. He’s taken his walnuts to the Middle East with government officials. He taught me about grades and pieces and what bakers need. That’s not a supplier—that’s someone I trust because I’ve known him for years.
4. Flexible sourcing, one contact
Walnuts from Chuxiong. Mushrooms from the mountains. Olives, oranges, whatever else you need. You don’t need to manage multiple factories—I coordinate everything. Mix containers, customize orders, handle all export documentation. One person, one point of contact.
5. Nine years of export experience
I spent nine years in a state-owned import-export corporation. Phytosanitary certificates, shipping logistics, customs compliance—I handle it all. You focus on your business.
One contact. One source you can trust.
